WELCOME TO CIPIAS

The Clifton Institute of Paranormal Investigation & Apparition Sciences is an established research facility dedicated to the scientific investigation of paranormal phenomena.

Since 1978, our team of researchers, academic leads and students have conducted in excess of 400 field investigations and controlled laboratory studies, investigating and documenting evidence of apparitional activity and unexplained phenomena throughout Bristol and Avon.

Professor Maurice K AspallEstablished in 1978 by Professor Maurice K Aspall, whose groundbreaking methodologies in paranormal investigation have influenced researchers across Britain. Professor Aspall, formerly of the University of Edinburgh, relocated to Bristol following his landmark MARWYMN investigation which revealed the city's exceptional concentration of documented supernatural phenomena. His rigorous scientific approach to apparitional research has established CIPIAS as a leading authority in regional paranormal studies.

CURRENT RESEARCH PROJECTS

As well as our ongoing service call-outs to newly reported hauntings and unexplained phenomenon across Bristol and Avon, we currently run a number of specialized long-term research projects:

Project Peter Street - Longitudinal study monitoring and evaluating paranormal phenomena at the historic Bristol Castle site, focusing on seasonal variations and correlation with astronomical events.
Methodology: 24-hour monitoring stations, ground-penetrating radar surveys, and medieval documentation cross-referencing.

All projects maintain strict confidentiality agreements with property owners and follow CIPIAS ethical research protocols established by Professor Aspall.

Mission Llandogo - Comprehensive monitoring and assessment of paranormal activity within Bristol's most haunted drinking establishment, a 17th-century timber-framed building with over three centuries of documented supernatural incidents.
Outcomes: Ongoing staff psychological support, monthly site visits, continuous EMF monitoring, and detailed incident logging, mainly during Monday night's quiz.

Operation Odeon - Multi-year investigation uncovering the secrets behind one of Bristol's most notorious and well-documented hauntings. This classified research involves advanced recording techniques and collaboration with historical archives.
Status: Our team our currently investigating on Orange Wednesday evenings, identified as a hotspot for activity.

All CIPIAS investigations are conducted according to strict scientific protocols. We maintain detailed documentation and welcome peer review of our methodologies and findings.
